Raspberry Pi Zero NES Case Project
Inspired (or copied / plagiarized) by this guide https://howchoo.com/g/mti0oge5nzk/pi-cart-a-raspberry-pi-retro-gaming-rig-in-an-nes-cartridge. This is my attempt at putting a Raspberry Pi in a NES case.
Seems like a simple enough of a mod. No need for soldering or any other difficult electronics work. Highly recommended as a simple project to do for full emulation on the cheap. No need for getting expensive HDMI upscalers to make old consoles work nicely on new TVs, and you can use the original game controllers if you like for that authenticity. Also this is much cheaper than the $200 Nintendo Classic NES thats on eBay at the moment.
Bill of materials
Things cost a bit more because its reflected in AUD ($) and we get killed on things like postage as well as general price of retro gear. If you are doing this in the US or UK, im sure you can get the price way down.
Raspberry Pi Zero $15 (Pimoroni)
Nintendo Golf Cartridge – $14 (eBay)
4 Port USB Hub – $3.95 (eBay)
Mini HDMI to HDMI Female cable – $7 (Amazon)
Micro USB Male to Female adapter – $4.08 (eBay)
USB Female to Micro USB Male cable – $2.45 (eBay)
So there you have it. Its not too complicated to get this done over a weekend, so long as you make sure you measure and get the right materials at the front. I had to buy a few of the USB adapters before I found one that fit within the case.
