Singapore Summit June 12 – Trump vs Kim
Unless you have been living under a rock, President Trump and Chairman Kim Jong Un are having char kway teow in Singapore on the 12th of June.
Despite what the public says, its obvious why its hosted in Singapore. Not only is it neutral to both North Korea and the United States, its the only place in the world (maybe perhaps China?) that can basically forbid live protesting of the event by the general public.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the perks of the high surveillance, harsh penalties for crime, deterrents towards bad behavior, which all make Singapore a great place to live. But part of me feels that there is a place in the world for protest and a difference in opinion to the norm.
I was in Seoul last July, and there were protests going on near the Gyeongbokgung palace on Donald Trump, and his war rhetoric. It was a peaceful demonstration, with banners and people with facemasks holding up signs calling for peace.
Because protests have basically been forbidden here (except at Hong Lim, but I doubt the government would have approved the permit to protest anytime this week), its instead painted a very distorted image of these two unique characters in our global political world. Chairman Kim seems to be portrayed as a friendly leader who is trying to establish peace in the Korean peninsula. President Trump is a potential Nobel Peace Prize nominee for siting down with North Korea for a chat . Wait, didn’t the ex-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson offer to sit down with NK, but got absolutely slammed (and probably fired) for even suggesting so??
If this were held anywhere else in a major Asia Pacific city, say, Hong Kong, Manila, Bangkok, Sydney, Melbourne, Kuala Lumpur, even Yangon, i’m certain there would be some level of protest.
Brutal dictator, or a friendly and jolly man of the people here to open North Korea to the rest of the world. Idiot president, or leader of the free world? The media and the public seem to be so casual about this. Almost celebrity like?

Theres no reason NOT to take a selfie right?
I don’t have the answer to this, and this is just my thoughts after watching four hours of channel news asia straight tonight. Please don’t revoke my Employment Pass if you are reading..
