What to do in Hong Kong, Eating Local Food
I was in Hong Kong over a long weekend to visit some old friends, hang about, and just eat. I’ve been to Hong Kong a few times before so I was not really interested in visiting the known popular tourist haunts. So this is what i ate over 3 days that i remembered to take a photo of!
Eat Local Food in Hong Kong
In Hong Kong you must eat Dim Sum, Egg Tarts, and eat at a local Cha Chaan Teng. I also had Roast Goose which is totally overrated and can be had much cheaper in its “Duck” form.
Tsui Wah
2 Carnarvon Rd, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong
Tsui Wah, which recently opened up its first branch outside of Hong Kong, in Singapore, is an easy beginners choice for a place where you won’t get screamed at by some impatient aunty. We had the fishball noodle soup which was kind of bland, but the Instant Noodle with Beef strips was excellent. Yes, they serve instant noodles in Hong Kong.
Yung Kee Restaurant
Central, 32-40 Wellington St, Central, Hong Kong
This is Roast Goose at Yung Kee in Central. Like i said earlier, totally overrated and incredibly expensive dish. Roast Duck in Singapore and Sydney for that matter do the job fine.
Canton’s Kitchen Dim Sum Expert
11 Humphreys Ave, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong
Dim Sum of course is a must here. We tried two places, one called Canton’s Kitchen Dim Sum Expert and it was a bit bland.
Dim Dim Sum
Hong Kong, 佐敦文匯街28號文景樓
Recommended for some good tasting dim sum. We ordered about $70 for 4 people and had way too much food to chow down.
Hung Lee Restaurant
2 Hau Fook Street, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong
We also ate at two local Cha Chaan Tengs. This one was called Hung Lee Restaurant located in Tsim Sha Tsui. We had wonton noodles, beef brisket noodles, chee cheong fun, fried carrot cake and some milk teas.
Fu Wah Cafe
Hong Kong, North Point, Electric Rd, 258號地下D舖
This was a random pit stop after going to Fortress Hill to visit the Nike Factory Outlet for some sneakers. We walked past it and it had an english menu, so it was good enough for me.
I actually prefer finding these local places that probably aren’t in many guidebooks (if at all). There are no tourists here except those that randomly stumbled here. The egg tarts and milk tea were delish!
